Is NAD therapy addictive? ▲back to top of page

No. NAD is not a psycho tropical chemical and does not produce kicks, it only stabilise and normalise. There is no black market for the supplements.

Is NAD therapy allowed in sport?
▲back to top of page

Yes. Various provincial and national sportsmen use NAD supplements with great success and improvement in their performance.

Can NAD Therapy be used in conjunction with alcohol?
▲back to top of page

Yes, although according to research, the average alcoholic drink contains approximately 293 mmol alcohol and requires 586 mmol NAD to convert it to acetate. It is estimated, that one has approximately 25 mmol NAD. The detoxification of alcohol therefore puts a great deal of biological pressure on the body. In practice, it was found that people who suffer from NAD Energy Deficiency should cease the consumption of alcoholic drinks. A small glass or two of bottled red wine, diluted in soda water or mineral water may be consumed occasionally.

How long does it take before NAD Therapy takes effect?
▲back to top of page

NAD is not a psycho tropical chemical and the effect needs some time, before it can be observed on the conscious level. Most people start to become aware of an increase in physical energy, after having used the correctly identified supplements for four or five weeks. It is furthermore also important to remember, that NAD only provides physical energy to handle problems and does not solve psychological and spiritual problems, which contribute to low levels of physical energy. It provides the physical energy, which is required for identifying and handling psychological and spiritual problems which contribute to low levels of physical energy. Research indicates that the effects of the supplements can be observed after six week’s of treatment in the brain. Clinical improvement and reduction in brain damage, as determined by MRI scanning started to occur within one month. The blood levels require three days and the urine levels require two weeks.

How can one tell that his/her NAD Energy Level is improving?
▲back to top of page

Measurement is the only answer. The best and most valid measure is your general level of performance. In all cases, however, the benchmark energy value against which any improvement is measured is the person's own improvement - not the improvement of groups or subgroup of patients as a percentage success figure. On average the average energy block of treated patients shows an improvement from a pre treatment level of 52 to a follow-up treatment level of 81 after 12 weeks on NAD Therapy. This biochemical improvement is also experienced on physical, emotional and spiritual level.

What is NAD?
▲back to top of page

NAD is a coenzyme, which was discovered in 1905 and which is one of the most important role players in the manufacturing of cellular energy in living organisms. It has more than 100 metabolic functions in human biochemistry. Although we have already become acquainted with NAD at school. In the subject of biology, it is relatively unknown as a nutriceutal supplement for physical energy. Even the action of the Krebs cycle, which is found in most cells, is restricted when NAD and NADP are absent. NAD fluctuates continuously between the NAD and NADP and NADPH. NAD is obtained mainly from the NAD, which is present in food. NAD can also be produced in the body, particularly in the liver under control of the hormones which are secreted by the adrenal glands, from certain nutritional elements. Vitamin b3 is, just like nicotinamide, an important precursor of NAD. Tryptophan is another important precursor to NAD.

Is there a generic equivalent for NAD?
▲back to top of page

No, although laboratories across the world are trying to formulate analogues of NAD.

Does one not obtain enough NAD from food?
▲back to top of page

Ninety percent of persons get enough NAD from food and can utilise it completely, because enough energy factories (mitochondria) are available in cells. The 10%, who suffer from NED, will never be able to obtain enough NAD from food on its own. They will have to use NAD supplementation, if they want to have a stable body with physical energy, which will make it possible to enjoy a good quality of life.

What must be done before starting NAD therapy? ▲back to top of page

The blood tests must be performed first and the energy levels calculated, to determine whether a person requires NAD therapy and, if so, to determine the correct dosage, which will be required.

What are the symptoms of NAD deficiencies?
▲back to top of page

Deficiencies of NAD can lead to symptoms like problems with memory, apathy, irritability, problems with concentration, depression. Reduced mental energy, increased anxiety and panic, increased craving for alcohol, sugar and nicotine, reduced sex drive, fatigue and increased pre menstrual tension. Clinical experience also indicates that deficiencies of NAD are chronic, and often require long term treatment.

What is meant by the concept “energy value”?
▲back to top of page

The measurements of lactate and pyruvate are used internationally as indicators of the basic metabolic factors, because of their position in the process of physical energy production in the cellular manufacturing of physical energy. The Krebs Cycle represents the intersection between the conversion between the conversion of food and the utilisation thereof. The Krebs cycle is critical for all organ systems, because it is the fundamental biochemical path for the flow of physical energy. Professor Krebs had already won the Nobel Prize in 1953, for his description of the physical energy cycle. The separate measurement of lactate and pyruvate, as well as the ratio between the two, provide a unique perspective of the physical energy metabolism, as well as several cues on how to improve the production of physical energy. In order to make it more comprehensible, it was decided to set its normal value at 100+ and three formulas were established for this purpose. An energy value of 100 (borderline value) only means you have enough energy for physical energy for an ordinary day. Energy values higher than 100 means that the person has enough physical energy to engage in new projects or can handle daily demands more effectively.

Will problems arise if NAD therapy is interrupted?
▲back to top of page

The ingredients of the supplements often need weeks to reach blood levels and decrease quickly after their use has been suspended. The original symptoms return during interrupted use, because the supplements only stabilise the body when they are used. After use of the supplements has been resumed, it feels as if they do not work, because they must first reach blood levels again. It is normally best to first undergo the blood tests after long periods of disrupted use and to compile a new programme of treatment.

How does NAD therapy differ from other NED treatment approaches?
▲back to top of page

NAD has a normalising metabolic effect. Most commercially available energy supplements only contain the precursors of NAD, like vitamin b3, but even this is bio chemically expensive in the process to be converted to NAD and research findings proof that it can even lower the intracellular NAD pool.

What symptoms develop if NAD therapy is stopped abruptly?
▲back to top of page

No symptoms develop immediately, after use of NAD therapy has stopped abruptly. The original symptoms of NED will return gradually in time.

Are there any scientific publications on NAD therapy?
▲back to top of page

Literally thousands of scientific articles about the biochemical action of NAD are available on Medline. The last search yielded about 58921 studies. This is obviously too much for anyone to ever study in detail. Medical research indeed features scientific studies, in which NAD, precursors or derivatives thereof are mentioned in the treatment of several other diseases, conditions or syndromes. Although the biochemical function of NAD is discussed in thousands of articles, current information about NAD as a therapeutical agent is mainly based on uncontrolled case studies during the treatment of several NED-related conditions.

My doctor said NAD Therapy is rubbish and is just a money racket.
▲back to top of page
How must I reply?

If the doctor indeed said this, he/she will definitely have the necessary scientific articles to back this point of view. Ask him/her to contact us and to forward us copies or references of such scientific articles. Such articles would be greatly appreciated.

What is the difference between NAD and NADH? ▲back to top of page

NADH (nicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide hydride) is the reduced form of NAD (nicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide) inside the body. The NAD co-enzyme continuously varies between the NAD or NADH compound in the body. NAD is reduced to NADH in the metabolism of glucose. The hydrogen molecule is obtained from the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. The activated NADH plays a part in several critical bodily functions, amongst others, in the continued production of ATP, which is the basic energy compound in the body. NADH needs to be converted back to NAD and with insufficient NAD available for its conversion NADH can accumulate. NADH also accumalatesIn the case of hypoxia, or other causes of inhibition of the electron transport chain, NADH accumulates and the supply of NAD is depleted. This pushes the balance between pyruvate and lactate dramatically in favor of lactate further exacerbating its production in these circumstances. This change also occurs with alcohol abuse with alcohol dehydrogenase depleting NAD and producing NADH. Ethanol toxicity is closely related to its metabolism in the liver. The elevated NADH to NAD ratio (i.e. NAD deficiency) results in alterations of the intermediary metabolism of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, purines, hormones and porphyrins. This shift in metabolic pathways results in hyperlactacidaemia, lactacidosis, ketosis and hyperuricaemia. Furthermore, excess NADH can result in free radical production.

The NADH that builds up, e.g. during alcohol metabolism, will drive pyruvate to lactate which can lead to acidosis. The pyruvate is now not available for gluconeogenesis and if, as is common in serious alcoholism, the patient is not eating properly, hypoglacemia can result. The high NADH to NAD ratio will affect other processes such as b-oxidation. One clinical manifestation is liver disorders associated with alcoholism: fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis and, sometimes, cirrhosis. The burden on oxidizing systems also leads to increased use of the P450 or microsomal oxidizing system which has important effects on steroid metabolism and other processes involving this
system.

Can the NAD Energy supplements be used with infants? ▲back to top of page

Yes. The NAD Energy supplement range is suitable and 100% safe for all ages. The supplements are in capsule form and the contents can be dissolved with baby's milk. Lactate and pyruvate blood tests can be done after birth to determine if baby has a NAD Energy Deficiency. The lactate and pyruvate values indicated on the blood test results can then be used with the NAD Energy level calculator to determine the NAD Energy Block value and the corresponding treatment protocol can then be selected.

What is NAD Energy Deficiency?
Research indicates that 10% of the world population is suffering from a genetically inherited NAD Energy Deficiency that is transferred from mother to child at the moment of conception.
